Several days ago I installed OpenOffice 3.2 on my MacBook and on my PC at work. On the Mac I never liked any of the word processors. I’ve used Word 2008, OpenOffice up til 3.0, NeoOffice (before OpenOffice had an Aqua interface) and Pages (iWorks 2009). Now OpenOffice 3.2 is out, this is (for me) the office suite of that works best on the Mac.
OpenOffice 3.2 – the best office suite for the Mac?
February 18th, 2010Macbook trackpad speedbrowsing for Firefox, Openoffice and Pages
February 14th, 2010Recently I discovered some gestures on my MacBook that I was unaware of. These work in Firefox, OpenOffice and Apple Pages. Using three fingers up and down in Firefox browses to the beginning or end of a page in one swipe. In OpenOffice the same gesture brings you to the previous or next page (not the end of the document). In iWorks Pages you move up or down one screen.

February 2nd, 2010Due to a virus infection this weblog has been offline for several weeks. Today I’ve restored everything, except for the template which may have been the entrance for the virus.
Why we don’t want to be a Windows 7 PC
October 23rd, 2009Take a look at the following video. You’ll see Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer present the new Windows 7 operating system. What’s so interesting is that he still doesn’t get the “I’m a Mac” campaign. And what’s righout disturbing is that nobody else told him this. They are obviously still reacting to Apple’s marketing campaign, which shows Microsoft still doesn’t have a clue how to counteract.
Panasonic Lumix TZ5
September 24th, 2009Several months ago I bought the Lumix TZ5. Even though this model is outdated and replaced by the TZ6 and TZ7, I want to share my experiences with this camera. I like it very much for its excellent quality, the 10x zoom, small size, and the easy of handling. It has some annoyances, but overall it was worth the money and I’m very satisfied with it. Most of this review will apply to the new models as well.
Upgrading to 10.6 Snow Leopard without GUID
August 31st, 2009Last weekend I bought an upgrade cd for Mac OS X Snow Leopard. I have a 13″ MacBook (unibody). It turned out that it was impossible to upgrade my system to SL, because my harddisk wasn’t partitioned with GUID. After I repartitioned the harddisk correctly, my account was gone and all settings were lost. It took me quite some time to figure out how to fix this. Here you can read how I did it. L’auberge Espagnole
August 12th, 2009Just saw this movie on the tele. Really lovely! Barcelona, Parc Guell, the beach, Placa Reial, the echoes in the streets at night, the drunken scenes, the student dorm with too many people – but somehow managing having fun and living their life. Speaking three or four different languages at once, saying goodbye, coming home and having a culture shock.
Cosmic Thing
July 22nd, 2009In 2003 I was in Venice (Italy) to visit the Biennale. In the Arsenale I saw this incredible beetle, dismantled, hanging in a big hall. It was like something from outer space…
Using subdomains for multiple sessions
June 6th, 2009As a developer or tester you sometimes need to use multiple logins at the same time. A browser can usually handle only one login session at a time. When you loggin in another tab or window, the other session is destroyed. Logging in and out over and over again can be very annoying. The solution is simple: use subdomains!
Documenting your Flash movie
November 16th, 2009I’ve been busy with Flash CS4 lately, creating a movie for a client. One of the things I want to do is document how I worked, in case somebody else has to work on it later. I searched online what’s the best way to do this, but I couldn’t find anything. In the end I created my own method, which I want to share here.
